A Club Led by the Members for the Members

In May 2022, The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club became a member-owned club. The private club, which is located inside the PGA Village in St. Lucie West, was originally established in 1984 by well-known and respected golf course architect George Fazio, his wife Barbara and nephew golf course architect Jim Fazio. The Fazio’s designed and oversaw construction of the initial club facilities, including the 18-hole championship golf course, clubhouse and restaurant, tennis courts and swimming pool. The 18-hole championship golf course, named The Legacy, has a unique history, including being the last course George designed and the first course designed with his nephew, Jim who went on the have successful career as a golf course architect. Throughout its history, The Legacy has held numerous prestigious Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) and United States Golf Association (USGA) sanctioned events and qualifying tournaments. After changing ownership several times, the club is now owned, operated and managed by its members, which was the original plan of offering by the Fazio’s.

One of the special features of The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club is how many activities it offers. In addition to the 18-hole championship golf course, tennis courts, clubhouse and restaurant, and swimming pool designed by the Fazio’s, the club’s facilities have been expanded to include a 9-hole par 3 golf course, expanded golf practice area and miniature golf course all designed by Jim Fazio; construction of a second restaurant and bar, a dog park, pickleball courts, and bocce ball courts.

In recent months, the club has embarked on numerous projects to revise, renovate and enhance its facilities. “Our mission is to maintain and continuously improve the golf courses, tennis facility and clubhouse facilities for present and future members and guests. We want to deliver a rewarding membership experience in line with our core values, by ensuring that services and facilities are of the highest possible standard”.

The golf program has numerous events, member and interclub tournaments, private lessons and teaching clinics for golfers of all skill sets. In addition to the 18-hole championship golf course, a 9-hole par 3 golf course (The Executive Course) and expanded practice facilities are available. The golf courses and related facilities under the supervision of Golf Course Superintendent Chris Gast, GCSAA have seen renovations, including new tee boxes, improved drainage and updated bunkers. Further enhancements in the near future include replenishment of all sand bunkers, regrading of all cart paths and enhancing the overall natural beauty of the golf courses.

The tennis program under the purview of Head Tennis Professional Aldo Burga, USPTA, IPTPA, CRSE Certified includes six clay tennis courts and two pickleball courts. Burga, who is an accomplished tournament player himself, has coached state and national ranked players in his more than 30 years at The Legacy. He and his tennis instructors conduct group clinics for all ages, private lessons, round-robin games, and compete in local interclub tournaments. Aldo and his team are looking forward to updating the tennis facilities in the coming months.

Dining options at the club include the Sims Club and the Fazio Club, which offer fine dining and casual options. The Sims Club has an updated menu that features monthly dinner specials and lunches ranging from steaks to salads, plus a full service bar. If you are seeking a more casual experience or to refuel after activities, visit the Fazio Club, which has strategically placed televisions, outdoor seating, complimentary snacks and a full-service bar. In the near future, expanded casual lunch and dining options will be offered.

The swimming pool at The Legacy has undergone recent repairs and improvements, with plans for potential poolside service and night time socializing under the stars.

The dog park, named Happy’s Place, is located near the clubhouse and features two fenced compounds for small and large dogs. The park has an agility area with jumps and tunnels, plus benches for socializing with fellow dog owners. The park has recently been resodded and refurbished to the delight of the members dogs.

The miniature golf course, named The Desert Course, was designed by Jim Fazio with a desert theme and landscaping. It is lit in the evenings for those who want to play day or night. Located next to Happy’s Place, members and their families of all ages can enjoy an outing together.

Rounding out the racquet sports are the two pickleball courts, which are popular as the sport is showing quick growth in local communities. The bocce courts, consisting of both clay and grass courts, have recently been refurbished.

In January 2023, a new Board of Governors will be elected to serve as the club’s leaders. In addition, numerous committees will be established to ensure that members’ voices are heard, including finance, entertainment, golf and tennis committees.
